Man-about-town John Mayer has released the first single from his upcoming album, and it's guaranteed to raise a slew of red flags among Taylor Swift fans.

Vevo premiered the quirky, Prancercise-themed lyric video for Paper Doll today, and while it appears to be the usual lovesick ballad we've come to expect from Mayer, it also works as a response to his ex-flame's Dear John.

"You're like 22 girls in one," Mayer sings, "and none of them know what they're running from." The chorus references Swift's summer hit 22, along with Dear John, in which she sang, "And I'll look back and regret how I ignored when they said, 'Run as fast as you can.' "

"Someone's gonna paint you another sky," he continues, calling back to Taylor's lyrics where she says, "You paint me a blue sky and go back and turn it to rain."

Are fans reading too far into the lyrics or is Mayer really giving Swift a taste of her own medicine? After all, he did say he was "humiliated" by her 2010 tune.

Watch Paper Doll and judge for yourself.
