Stars react to death of legendary singer Gregg Allman

The music world reacted to the death of legendary singer Gregg Allman, a member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and founding member of the Allman Brothers Band.

The Southern rock pioneer Allman died Saturday at his home in Savannah, Ga. at age 69.

Cher, who was married to Allman from 1975 to 1979, tweeted to her ex, referring to the couple's nicknames.

"I've tried...word are impossible Gui Gui," Cher wrote, featuring a broken heart. "Forever, Chooch."

Singer Keith Urban tweeted that his "heart breaks today at the pass of soul brutha Gregg Allman. Blessings and peace to all the Allman family."

Country singer Brad Paisley tweeted: "What a legacy @GreggAllman leaves behind. Jam on in the great hereafter."

Almost Famous director Cameron Crowe, who wrote a 1973  Rolling Stones article delving into The Allman Brothers Band following the 1971 death of Duane Allman, tweeted, "Thank you @GreggAllman... for the inspiration, and for those many holy nights on stage."

Captain America star Chris Evans tweeted that he was playing The Allman Brothers'  Whipping Post on repeat all day. Evans added, "RIP Gregg Allman. One of the greats."

Rocker Peter Frampton tweeted the he had the honor of jamming with Allman recently. "I admire him so much," wrote Frampton. "A gentle soul with so much soul."

Singer Melissa Etheridge tweeted that her "southern-rock heart is breaking," adding a picture herself next to Allman. "He showed me his tattoos... his voice.... his soul."

Southern rocker Charlie Daniels tweeted a tribute: "Rest in peace brother. You were the best Dixie had. You will be missed."

Daniels featured a picture of himself with Allman, adding, "Gregg Allman had a feeling for the blues very few ever have. Hard to believe that magnificent voice is stilled forever."

Rocker Bob Seger tweeted, "A case can be made, the Allman Brothers established Southern Rock as a musical genre. Gregg was one of my favorite rock singers of all time, he put immense soul into his music...So sad, we've lost another music titan."

Beach Boys co-founder Brian Wilson tweeted that he was saddened to hear the passing of "a great musician. Love & Mercy."

Athens, Georgia rock band R.E.M. featured the one time they jammed with Allman on Twitter.

Rock guitarist Nils Lofgren referred to one of the Allman Brothers classic songs in his tweet. "It's all just too much. #GreggAllman Rest In Peace Midnight Rider."

Singer Sheryl Crow tweeted, "Broken heart. Gregg Allman I will miss you."

Drummer Ringo Starr tweeted "Rest in peace Greg Allman. Peace and love to all the family."

Comedian Ron White featured a picture of Allman while tweeting, "My musical hero wrote the songs of my life. Thanks for adding a soundtrack to my memories, Gregg."
