Jaguar Land Rover teased a fourth variant of its popular Range Rover sport-utility vehicle on Wednesday, once again seeking to capitalize on a market hungry for luxury versions of big and practical, yet shapely, vehicles.

The luxury automaker released an overhead photo of the Range Rover Velar, which will make its global debut next week and its U.S. debut at the New York International Auto Show in April.

The Land Rover Range Rover Velar.

The nameplate's current variants are the flagship Range Rover, Range Rover Evoque and Range Rover Sport.

The new variant's name is derived from the Latin word "velare," which means "to veil or cover," according to Land Rover.

The automaker gave few details about the vehicle beyond a pair of teaser images, saying only that it would boast "sustainable materials and advanced engineering."

The second teaser photo indicates that the Velar is larger than the Evoque but smaller than the Sport and the flagship Range Rover.

“We call the Velar, the avant-garde Range Rover," Land Rover Chief Design Officer Gerry McGovern said in a statement. "It brings a new dimension of glamor modernity and elegance to the brand. The Range Rover Velar changes everything.”

This teaser image shows the comparative sizes of each Range Rover model, including the soon-to-be-revealed Velar.
