UPDATE: The hearing has been postponed until Oct. 31.

Earlier: Former Tennessee Titans football player Michael Oher, whose journey to the NFL is memorialized in the book and film "The Blind Side," is due in court Friday morning for a hearing in connection to an assault charge in Nashville.

Oher was charged with misdemeanor assault in the early morning of April 14. Nashville police said Oher pushed and kicked his Uber driver over an apparent dispute with the fare.

Oher, who has been in the NFL's concussion protocol since September, was released from the Carolina Panthers on Thursday with a failed physical designation.

FILE: Michael Oher, then a Tennessee Titan, races out of the tunnel as he is introduced before their game against the Browns at LP Field on Sunday Oct. 5, 2014, in Nashville, Tenn.

Oher is due in court before Davidson County General Sessions Judge Melissa Blackburn for a preliminary hearing. The judge is expected to listen to testimony in the case and will ultimately decide whether there is enough evidence to send Oher's case before a grand jury. Oher is represented by attorney Roger May of Nashville.
