The Franklin Police Department sadly announced the unexpected death of K9 Dagger, a member of their K9 support unit for nine years, on Jan. 10.

According to an official Franklin Police Department press release, K9 Dagger, an 11-year-old German Shepherd/Belgian Malinois, was euthanized due to a serious and deteriorating health problem.

K9 Dagger was partnered with Officer Michael Fixel in October 2007, and for the past nine years provided service to the community. As a distinguished member of the K9 Unit, Dagger participated in numerous K9 tracks, criminal apprehensions, drug searches and community events.

K9 Dagger will be greatly missed. The department extends its condolences to Officer Fixel for his loss.
