Franklin — The Franklin Fire Department responded to an oven fire at Baptista's Bakery, 4625 W Oakwood Park Drive, around 1 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21.

According to Assistant Chief Ron Mayer, the department responded to a fire alarm activation at the bakery after one of the bakery's ovens caught on fire. The specific cause of the fire is still under investigation.

When the department arrived on the scene, workers had already begun evacuating the bakery. Fire fighters were able to get the fire under control in half an hour, and no one was injured.

Mayer said the estimated damage to the bakery is around $10,000, with most damage occurring to the oven and food product inside. As the fire was contained inside the oven, he noted that the fire did not easily spread and was not extensive.

Fire departments from Hales Corners, Greendale, Greenfield, Oak Creek, and New Berlin also responded to the fire.
