FRANKLIN - Country Dale Elementary School sixth-graders won second in their division at the 2017 State Mathematics Contest.
The students competing also did well individually. Natalie Holcomb and Olivia Bruhn earned a spot on the All-State First Team and Aditybah Gupta earned a spot on the second team.
Eight students from County Dale competed in total, including Suha Afzar, Mason Boschke, Savannah Fraley, Alex Mierow, Ethan Shelton, Buhn, Holcomb, and Gupta.
"Our staff at Country Dale is incredibly proud of this group of students. Each student on this team enters the math classroom ready to learn and diligently works to become better mathematicians," said Brandon Buchmann, the team's coach and sixth-grade math teacher.
"They are receptive to challenges and do not give up when tasks are difficult. We are confident that these students will accomplish great things in the future because of their work ethics and desire to learn!"
Students took the test on March 9 and received the results later. The team competed in the Class B Division, which included schools with fewer than 500 students.
The math contest is sponsored by the Wisconsin Mathematics Council.
