GREENDALE - Dinner and a movie has never been quite like this.
BistroPlex, a new dining and entertainment concept from Marcus Theatres, is coming to Southridge Mall this summer. It’s “designed to transform each auditorium into a fun and full-service entertainment venue complete with food and beverages, a server, comfortable recliners, and a movie,” Marcus announced in a news release.
Construction on the 40,000-square-foot project, which began last fall, is the first of its kind for Marcus Theatres. It will be situated on 1.74 acres at the northeast corner of the mall parking lot.
The BistroPlex will feature eight in-theater dining auditoriums with DreamLounger recliners complete with side tables. Two will be SuperScreen DLX auditoriums with oversized screens, heated seats, and a bar/lounge.
“As a leader and innovator in hospitality and entertainment, Marcus Theatres is excited to introduce a new concept that puts more emphasis on the dining experience,” said Rolando Rodriguez, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Marcus Theatres. “Instead of adding an amenity, like in-theatre dining, to an existing auditorium, BistroPlex creates a new and amazing dining experience in every auditorium in the building. Throughout the entire complex, guests will remember the food as well as the movie.”
That food will include sandwiches, pizza, appetizers and desserts. According to the release, Marcus Theatres’ executive chef is working on the finishing touches on a new menu.
Guests will place their orders – which also can include popular movie-going treats like popcorn, candy, and soda, among other options – with a server, who will deliver the food and drinks directly to their seats.
“The BistroPlex concept is described by its name,” Rodriguez noted. “A bistro is known as a small restaurant and ‘plex’ means the movie and dining is woven together as an experience throughout every auditorium in the building.”
In addition to Marcus, other local officials expressed their excitement over the plan.
“Southridge Mall is thrilled to welcome Marcus’ Theatres’ BistroPlex to the center this summer,” said Southridge Mall General Manager Mary Mokwa. “This first-in-market concept is sure to become a true entertainment destination for the whole community, and we’re proud to enhance our offerings with this option for visitors looking to shop, dine and spend time together in one convenient location.”
“The addition of BistroPlex brings a unique dining and entertainment experience to the area,” said Greendale Village Manager Todd Michaels. “The investment shows a commitment to rebuilding the community and its offerings. Plus, this new complex will create more than 150 jobs. We appreciate the partnership with Marcus Theatres on this project and what it will bring to the surrounding neighborhood.”
The BistroPlex will allow for group entertainment for in-theatre meetings, team building and other events, according to the release, which adds that business or private events can be customized with special promotional packages that are available.
Rodriguez said Marcus Theatres is excited to see guests’ reactions to this “enhanced entertainment destination.”
Marcus Theatres, a division of The Marcus Corporation, has 885 screens at 68 locations in Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, and Ohio.
