Boerner Botanical Gardens will host a variety of seasonal events at the beginning of December, starting with a class on growing bulbs during the winter, then a holiday gift fair over the weekend, and finishing with a décor workshop on Dec. 6.
Bulbs for the Holidays
The "Bulbs for the Holidays" class will be held at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 1 and will explore growing bulbs such as hyacinth, paperwhite narcissus, and amaryllis during the winter. Tracy Hankwitz of the Burlington Garden Center will teach methods to force bulbs to bloom in time for the holidays and each participant will receive a bulb to try to grow at home.
The class is $15 per person or $10 for members of the Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens.
Holiday Gift Fair
Boerner will host a free Holiday Gift Fair 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4, featuring unique gift items from area artists and businesses. Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will greet visitors and local groups will perform seasonal music throughout the day.
Friends of Boerner will set up a table where children can make holiday gifts for a small donation and Zilli Hospitality Group will also be offering a $5 discount on their Sunday Brunch event for guests who donate a new, unwrapped toy to Toys for Tots.
Holiday Décor Workshop
Vicki Kunz of La Tulipe will lead the Holiday Décor workshop, which runs from 6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 6. Kunz will show participants how to make "kissing balls," scented holiday decorations that can be hung either outdoors or indoors.
Pre-registration for this event by Nov. 29 is encouraged. The program fee is $35 per person or $30 for Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens. For more information, call Friends of Boerner Botanical Gardens at 414-525-5661.
