The Lutheran Education Association selected Hales Corners Lutheran (HCL) Elementary School teacher Hillary Czernicki as an outstanding new Lutheran elementary teacher for 2017.
The Lutheran Education Association has presented this award to new teachers since 2005, though they do not select a winner every year.
Czernicki teaches fourth grade at the elementary school and is currently in her second year of teaching. In addition to her role is the classroom, she also serves as the HCL middle school dance coach, literature club leader, and the rhythm and hum worship group dance coordinator at the elementary school.
“The community she has created in her classroom has eased conflicts between students in the grade. Ongoing struggles seem to have melted away and been replaced with friendship and an understanding of other students differences," one parent said in favor of Czernicki's nomination, according to a press release. "My son has said on multiple occasions, spontaneously, that this is the best year ever. His grades, his confidence, and his relationship with his classmates also indicate this."
Czernicki has a bachelor's degree in Lutheran elementary education from Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon.
