HALES CORNERS - The same West Allis woman charged with robbing a bank in Brookfield has also been charged for a robbery that occurred at Tri City Bank in Hales Corners on March 27.
Sarah Kraus, 34, was charged in Milwaukee County on Monday, April 3, and is facing up to 40 years in prison for robbery of a financial institution and up to six years in prison for felony bail jumping.
According to a criminal complaint, Kraus is accused of robbing roughly $8,000 from Tri City Bank, 5555 S 108th St. The complaint says that a suspect wearing a pink sweatshirt had walked into Tri City Bank around 4:45 p.m. March 27, stopped at the deposit both, and then presented a teller with a note demanding cash.
During the investigation, police examined a bank surveillance video, from which photos were issued to media outlets. Hales Corners police reportedly received multiple tips identifying Kraus as the person in the photographs.
While searching Kraus' West Allis apartment, a roommate who had consented to the search pointed an officer to a closet Kraus used. He found glasses and a sweatshirt like the ones the suspect wore in the surveillance video and also a Tri City Bank deposit slip with a demand for money written on the back.
According to the complaint, the note read "I am here for cash! I am armed! I want bands from both drawers NO DYE PACKS NO GPS NO BAIT BILLS you have 15 sec. I DO NOT WANT TO HURT ANYONE NO ALARMS STAY CALM!"
Kraus has also been charged in Waukesha County for a similar incident that occurred at BMO Harris Bank in Brookfield on March 25. She is currently being held at the Waukesha County Jail.
