A groundbreaking for Oak Creek’s IKEA store, a large Swedish home furnishings retailer, is set for Thursday, June 29.
The event will feature Oak Creek Mayor Dan Bukiewicz, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele and other local officials and IKEA representatives.
The site of the future 291,000-square-foot store is on 29 acres near the corner of Interstate 94 and Drexel Avenue.
The store is slated to open in summer 2018, and will be the 48th IKEA store in the U.S., and will employ 250 employees.
The store will also feature three model home interiors, 50 room settings, a children's play area and a 300-seat restaurant serving the retailer’s signature Swedish meatballs.
