Millionaires-only gas station with waterpark, steakhouse planned in Connecticut
For elites needing a place posher than a 7-11 to top off the Lexus, a members-only luxury gas station is slated for Greenwich, Conn.
The Guess Corporation, based in North Carolina, plans to build a four-story convenience store featuring a salon, a designer clothing boutique and a waterpark, the Greenwich Time reported.
Required for membership: A household net worth of $50 million or more.
The mansion-cum-convenience store, called a “GP Club,” is slated to open within the next year, the newspaper reported.
And elites won’t have to wait next to some Joe Schmoe at the pump: A valet and concierge will greet members upon arrival before whisking their cars away to get fueled, hand-washed and waxed.
While waiting, members will be able to relax from their lives’ difficulties in a sleeping suite or catch up on business in a video-conference room, per Fox 61. An on-site steakhouse will offer more refined food for travelers than hot dogs or beef jerky.
Meanwhile, the wealth gap between America’s richest earners and the rest of its population has widened to levels not seen since before the Great Depression.
“Greenwich is considered an ultra-affluent city in America, and we think it is important for GP Club to have a presence in the city,” Tiffany Taylor, a Guess Corporation vice president, said in an email to the Time.
The precise site of the club remains to be seen, the Time reported, with the company currently working with a New York City-based real estate firm to find the best option.
The GP Clubs will operate under Guess Petroleum, a division of Guess Corporation. The Greenwich location will be among the first of 250 such clubs reportedly planned for the next few years, according to Commercial Property Executive.
Aside from meeting the net worth requirement, members will also pay an annual and undisclosed fee, per the Time.
Once paid up, members will be free to use any future GP Club location around the world, meaning they might never have to ride into an everyman’s gas station again.
