Miley Cyrus spoke openly about coming out as pansexual earlier this week, but the concept remains unfamiliar for many.

A pansexual person is someone who is attracted to all gender identities or people regardless of gender. Here’s what it means to be pansexual from celebrities who are pansexual and every day people:

Miley Cyrus:

Cryus, who described herself as attracted to people of any sex or gender, said she realized she was pansexual after becoming a part of the LGBT community in Los Angeles and meeting a gender-neutral person.

"Even though I may seem very different, people may not see me as neutral as I feel. But I feel very neutral," she said in the Power of Women L.A. issue. I think that was the first gender-neutral person I’d ever met. Once I understood my gender more, which was unassigned, then I understood my sexuality more. I was like, 'Oh — that’s why I don’t feel straight and I don’t feel gay. It’s because I’m not.'"

Cyrus told Paper magazine in 2015, that she's open to many different kinds of relationships.

“I am literally open to every single thing that is consenting and doesn’t involve an animal and everyone is of age,” she told Paper magazine. “Everything that’s legal, I’m down with. Yo, I’m down with any adult — anyone over the age of 18 who is down to love me. I don’t relate to being boy or girl, and I don’t have to have my partner relate to boy or girl.”

Jazz Jennings:

Jazz Jennings, a transgender teenager who is the subject of TLC's I Am Jazz, told Cosmo, that pansexual means you are "attracted to anyone, no matter their sex, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, everything."

"There's no limits," she said. "I'll date anyone. It's more that I love someone for their soul. Physically, I think I'm more attracted to boys but sometimes I'm attracted to girls too, so it's weird."

Pansexual: Where does it fall on the LGBTQ spectrum?

Normal people explain pansexuality on Twitter and YouTube:

Morgan Marsh, posted a YouTube video of herself coming out as pansexual to her father in 2014.

In the video, which has been viewed over 300,000 times, Marsh tells her dad she’s pansexual, and he asks her what that means.

“I’m pansexual, it’s kind of like bisexual, but attracted to all sexes and genders,” she said.

Twitter user @JanetLevari  explained her dating preferences on #NationalComingOutDay.

"I am also pansexual," Levari said. "I date all which means I date Male female and all Transgenders. I like all gender identities."
