Trump: If I win, I want special prosecutor looking into Clinton's 'situation'

During Sunday's debate, Donald Trump told Hillary Clinton that, if elected, he wanted to get a special prosecutor to "look into" Clinton's "situation."

"If I win, I am going to instruct my Attorney General to get a special prosecutor to look into your situation," Trump said.

He continued: "We're going to look into it. Because you know what? People have been -- their lives have been destroyed for doing one-fifth of what you've done. And it's a disgrace. And honestly, you ought to be ashamed of yourself."

Clinton responded that while what Trump said was "absolutely false," she wasn't surprised.

"It's just awfully good that someone with the temperament of Donald Trump is not in charge of the law in our country," Clinton said.

"Because you'd be in jail," Trump said.

Members of the debate's in-house audience, instructed not to interrupt during the event, howled.

Eric Holder, who served as U.S. attorney general from 2009 to 2015, later criticized Trump's suggestion and called him "dangerous."
