WHITNALL/GREENDALE WRESTLING

The local co-op team downed South Milwaukee, 40-21, in a Woodland Conference dual meet on Dec. 21.

Winners were Chip Hansen at 120 pounds (pin in 5 minutes, 14 seconds), Sebastian Iverson at 126 (6-4), Gabe Lewis at 138 (7-0), Nathan Hensley at 145 (12-4), Riley Nugent at 152 (8-6), Dom Trimboli at 170 (7-2), Colton Strupp at 220 (pin in 2:29), Dom Wichgers at 106 (forfeit) and Matt Roate at 113 (forfeit).

The squad is off until 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 5, when it meets West Allis Hale at Greendale High School.

OAK CREEK GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Knights scored an important 60-47 nonconference victory over Brookfield Central on Dec. 20.

With the win, the eighth-ranked Knights improved to 6-2 on the season. They will host their own holiday tournament Dec. 29 and 30. They will play Brookfield East at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, and if they win, they will likely see top-ranked-in-D2-polls Beaver Dam in the final at 5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30.

In the win over Brookfield Central, the Knights took a 32-23 halftime lead and then held the Lancers at arm's-length the rest of the game.

Lea Finn and Kassandra Bartek had 13 points each to lead the way for the Knights, and Haley Zylka added 10. Zylka had five assists, Katie West seven rebounds, Katie Gard four steals and Jessica McIntosh four assists.

GREENDALE BOYS BASKETBALL

The defense struggled for the Panthers in an 88-68 loss to Wauwatosa West on Dec. 20 in Woodland Conference play.

Greendale allowed 47 first-half points in falling behind, 47-31, at the half. The Panthers came back in the second half but could not overhaul the Trojans.

Vlado Zrnic tallied 18 points, Tanner Sebastian 14 points, Tommy Kujawa 13 points and Zach Harrison 10 points for Greendale, which slipped to 1-3 in the Woodland and 4-3 overall.

The Panthers play Catholic Memorial at 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, at home and then visit New Berlin West at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, in a makeup game from the Dec. 16 snowstorm.

GREENDALE GIRLS BASKETBALL

The Panthers fell twice last week, with the offense continuing to struggle.

They lost to Wauwatosa West, 58-34, on Dec. 20 in Woodland Conference action. Cassidy Sanchez notched 9 points and Allyson Caballero 7 points.

Greendale also dropped a 48-30 decision to Waukesha South on Dec. 22. Caballero and Kayce Vaile each posted 8 points.

The Panthers play in a tournament at Fort Atkinson this week, taking on Luxemburg-Casco on Dec. 29 and the Milwaukee School of Languages at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Dec. 30.

They play Martin Luther at 7:30 p..m. Tuesday, Jan. 3, and New Berlin West at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, both at home.
