Three area teams reached the WIAA summer baseball sectional July 17 with convincing results in the regional finals held July 13.

Griffin Doersching continued to demonstrate his sensational power with two home runs in a 6-1 win over upstart West Allis Central. Doersching's home run to left scored two runs in the first, and a second two-run home run in the fifth gave his team a 6-0 lead.

Doersching homered three times against Milwaukee Pius in the final game of the Woodland Conference Tournament and twice more in a doubleheader against Franklin to close the regular season.

JR Muth and Collin Bucko delivered RBI singles, as well, and Sean Sanchez earned the win with six strong innings, allowing one run on four hits. Doersching closed the game down with a clean seventh inning. He's now up to 12 home runs this season.

The Panthers (21-7) advanced to face Franklin (24-6) in the sectional semifinal at New Berlin Eisenhower.

Franklin, seeded second, needed only five innings to get that far with an 11-0 win over Greenfield in the regional final. It was Franklin's third shutout of the season, and eight of the nine starters collected hits.

Carson Manning went 3 for 3 with two doubles, a stolen base and five runs driven in, and Aaron Simmons plated two runs with a double in the second inning. Caleb Willert picked up the win with four innings on the mound, and Ryan Keesler struck out two of three batters in his one inning of relief. His 64 strikeouts lead the team this season.

Franklin was hoping to get one last rematch, potentially, with top-seeded Oak Creek, who defeated the Sabers for the Greater Metro Tournament title and split battles with Franklin in the regular season. Oak Creek reached the Eisenhower sectional by virtue of its 9-3 win over New Berlin West in the regional final.
