Moving ever closer to a return trip to the WIAA state tournament, the Greendale girls volleyball team claimed a regional championship on Oct. 22.

The second-seeded Panthers downed seventh seed Union Grove, 25-16, 25-12, 25-21, at home to win the regional title and earn the right to play in a sectional semifinal at approximately 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at Racine Park against Racine Case, the third seed.

That match will follow another semifinal between West Allis Hale and Franklin at 5 p.m. that day.

The winner plays at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, at West Allis Hale against either Hale or Franklin for the sectional crown. Greendale lost a match to Hale in a tournament earlier this season.

The Panthers are trying for their second straight trip to the state tournament at the Resch Center in Green Bay.

"We are going to work our hardest and apply everything we have learned all season to meet our goal of making it back to Green Bay," coach Katie Matel said.

Against Union Grove, Corinne Bialo collected seven kills and five digs, Kayce Litzau 16 assists, Jess Grabowski three service aces and Annie Pulizos five blocks.

"This was the best match I have seen the team play all year," Matel said. "We had a great week of practice, and the team really came together and decided that they did not want to end the season with any regrets."
