Russell Westbrook bags latest triple-double in first half

Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook hardly needed any time Saturday night to notch yet another triple-double.

Westbrook recorded his league-high 16th triple-double of the season in about 19 minutes in the first half against the depleted Los Angeles Clippers. By halftime, Westbrook had 11 points, 12 assists and 10 rebounds. He didn't play much in the second half and finished with 17 points, 14 assists and 12 rebounds in 28 minutes of the Thunder's 114-88 rout.

Westbrook threatened the NBA record for fastest triple-double but came up a bit short. Jim Tucker recorded the fastest triple-double ever in about 17 minutes in 1955.

"It was good. The pace was high," Westbrook said. "Vic was wonderful. The opportunity of having another ball handler in the game, being able to carry out different plays for our team, it was good."

Victor Oladipo scored 15 points for Oklahoma City in his return from a right wrist injury. Enes Kanter had 23 points and eight rebounds off the bench.

Coming into the night, Westbrook was averaging 31.3 points, 10.6 assists and 10.5 rebounds a game. Hall of Fame guard Oscar Robertson is famously the only player in league history to average a triple-double over an entire season — 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 11.4 assists in 1961-62.

Los Angeles played without Chris Paul, who was sidelined by a hamstring injury, and Blake Griffin, who is recovering from right knee surgery.
