PHOENIX -- Teams have called about trading for star cornerback Richard Sherman and the Seattle Seahawks have discussed it, coach Pete Carroll acknowledged at the NFL meetings on Wednesday.

But Carroll said he doesn't envision Sherman playing elsewhere in 2017.

"You're either competing or you're not," Carroll said. "We've always had to be open for everything, every suggestion that comes along. There have been some teams that have called and so we've talked about it. But he's extremely important to our football team. I don't see anything happening, at all. And I don't see anything happening with any others our players, just by kind of the banter that's out there right now. But it has been talked about.

"He's a great player and could impact another team. I could see why people would be interested in him."

Sherman was banged up at times last season and drew attention for some off-field confrontations, including one in which he yelled at offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell.

"His mentality is to have a great offseason and he's doing that," Carroll said. "So, when he does that properly like he's done year after year, he always comes back ready to go. So I'm anxious to see him come back. I know there's been some issues and stuff. I'm anxious to see him handle everything and do really well and work to represent himself and his teammates in a great fashion."
