Before heading to the Avalon Myanmar, passengers spend two nights in Burma's main city, Yangon, visiting such iconic sites as the 325-foot-tall Shwedagon Pagoda.

One of the most off-the-beaten-path river trips operated by Avalon Waterways is now on sale.

The Colorado-based river line is offering $4,000-per-cabin savings on select 2017 departures of its Golden Myanmar & the Alluring Irrawaddy itinerary, which promises an in-depth look at the long-isolated country.

The 14-day trip combines a 10-night cruise on Myanmar's Irrawaddy River from Bhamo to Bagan with several nights at a hotel in Myanmar's main city, Yangon.

The offer is available for bookings made by Nov. 8.

The ultimate cruise adventure? New river ship explores hidden Myanmar

The cruise portion of the trip takes place on Avalon's 36-passenger Avalon Myanmar, a stylish, one-year-old vessel with spacious cabins and wall-to-wall panoramic windows. Avalon Myanmar is one of more than half a dozen river ships to debut on the Irrawaddy over the past three years as the country rapidly opens up after decades of isolation.

USA TODAY Cruise in December got a sneak peek at the Avalon Myanmar. For a deck-by-deck tour of the ship, scroll through the carousel below.
